1. Business
- Has been trading continuously for a period of not less than 12 months
- Hold public liability insurance for a minimum of £2 million
- Be in possession of a Health and Safety Policy Statement and appropriate Risk Assessment Procedure
- Have an absolute minimum annual turnover in excess of £30,000, which can be confirmed on business trading accounts.
2. Competence
Demonstrate adequate technical competence prior to joining the ECA and at regular intervals thereafter as required in line with a ‘Deemed to Satisfy’ route to membership or via the ECA Membership Certification Scheme.
3. Compliance
Carry out safe electrical work that complies with the latest Wiring Regulations from the British Standards Institute (BSI) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) or other relevant building regulations and UK standards.
If your business carries out domestic work, be registered with a Government-approved ‘Full Scope Competent Person Scheme’ for Part P of the building regulations.
Comply with the ECA’s Rules, Standing Orders and Bye-Laws and with the Code of Fair Trading.
