Q: Mike, what does your role as Technical Director involve?
A: My role is all about helping our Members navigate the technical side of the electrotechnical industry. That includes providing guidance on standards, supporting Members with complex technical queries, and making sure we stay ahead of regulatory changes so businesses can work safely and confidently.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working with ECA Members?
A: Honestly, it’s the variety. One moment I’m helping a small contractor with a technical query, the next I’m working with larger firms on compliance challenges. Every day is different, and I enjoy seeing how our support directly helps Members deliver great work.
Q: What technical topics are Members asking about the most right now?
A: We’re seeing lots of questions around electrical safety, EV charging installations, and updates to wiring regulations. With the pace of industry change, Members want reassurance that they’re working to the latest standards—and that’s where we come in.
Q: How does your team support Members day to day?
A: We provide helpline support, technical bulletins, webinars, and clear guidance documents. Members know they can contact us when they need accurate, practical advice, whether it’s something quick or something that needs a bit more digging.
Q: What’s one thing you wish every Member knew?
A: That no question is too small. Even simple queries can make a big difference to safety, compliance, and confidence. We’d always prefer Members to ask rather than assume.
Q: What are you looking forward to over the next year?
A: Continuing to strengthen our technical resources and making support even easier to access. We’ve got some exciting updates planned that will really help Members stay ahead of industry changes.
